For an old CCTV system, the power supply onsite may be 24V AC, a 24V AC to 12V DC convertor is able to convert the power onsite simply to make a 12V DC camera working.

If you connect a 12V DC CCTV camera to 24V AC power, the camera would be burnt most likely.
